Ukraine Targets Crypto Wallets Linked to iGaming and Money Laundering

Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have attempted to seize cryptocurrency wallets on Binance and Bybit allegedly connected to the iGaming product 1win. The seizure is part of an investigation into money laundering involving proceeds from criminal activity.

Legal Proceedings and Implications

The court issued the order as part of criminal case No. 42025102070000033, initiated on March 17, 2025, under Part 3 Article 209 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. This legal framework targets large-scale or organised group money laundering and poses serious penalties, including up to 12 years of imprisonment with asset confiscation.

The court decision wasn't solely based on Chainalysis data but supported by other materials within the criminal case. The contents of these materials remain undisclosed, adding layers to the investigation's complexities.

Potential Further Charges

There is the possibility of additional charges under Article 111-2, which could implicate entities in assisting an aggressor state, potentially adding a further 12 years of imprisonment. This charge is notably applied in iGaming contexts with suspected 'Russian connections.'

Enforcement Challenges

Despite the court order, enforcement on the Bybit and Binance exchanges remains uncertain. Even if enforced, there is no guarantee that funds have not been withdrawn from these wallets, posing challenges for effective law enforcement in the digital realm.
