AI Reshapes iGaming Customer Support Economics
Autonomous AI support is no longer a pilot concept in iGaming. Operators already use it to replace a large share of front-line customer service work, not just assist human agents. For multi-brand businesses, the financial case is direct: lower staffing costs, faster response times and round-the-clock coverage.
The model described in the market is clear. A typical multi-brand operator may run 20 to 40 support agents across a 24/7 schedule, with annual costs of about €800,000 to €1.5 million. Larger groups can spend €3 million to €5 million. By contrast, autonomous AI support is cited at roughly €50,000 to €150,000 per year.
What The Technology Is Already Doing
This is not limited to answering simple FAQ queries. AI support tools are being used to process 80% to 90% of non-VIP requests, including bonus application through PAM API connections, KYC status checks, ticket creation and complaint handling. PAM, or Player Account Management, is the core platform that stores player data, wallet activity and account controls.
Speed is a major driver. Where human handling can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes, autonomous systems are reported to respond within three to five seconds. They also operate across six to eight languages, which matters for operators serving several regulated markets from one support structure.
Why Operators Are Moving Fast
For operators, the numbers create strong pressure to adopt. If one business reduces front-line support costs while a competitor keeps a traditional service desk, the gap can reach 30% to 50% in operating costs. In a sector where margins are shaped by acquisition costs, bonus spend and compliance overhead, support efficiency quickly becomes a board-level issue.
That does not mean every query can be automated. VIP interactions, sensitive complaints and complex safer gambling cases still need experienced human judgement. Even so, if non-VIP volume shifts to AI at scale, front-line teams could shrink by 70% to 90% over 12 to 24 months.
How Support Roles Are Changing
The remaining human roles do not disappear, but they change sharply. Agents move into positions such as AI quality reviewer, where they check transcripts, correct errors and update the knowledge base that guides the system. This work is more procedural and may feel less rewarding for experienced support specialists who built careers around live problem-solving.
That shift matters for suppliers and operators alike. AI support needs constant supervision to stay accurate, compliant and aligned with brand tone. A faster system is only useful if it applies the right bonus rule, reads KYC status correctly and routes complaints in line with market requirements.
Labour Impact Across iGaming Hubs
The largest social effect may appear in established support centres such as Malta, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania and Poland. These markets host large multilingual service teams for international operators. If automation accelerates across the sector at the same time, the impact on local employment could be severe.
This is where implementation choices matter. A gradual rollout with open communication, severance planning and retraining gives staff time to adapt. Immediate cuts with little dialogue may reduce short-term cost, but they damage trust and can weaken knowledge transfer during deployment.
A Defining Decision For The Sector
The current debate is no longer about whether AI can support customer service. The real question is whether companies frame it as workforce augmentation or direct replacement. In practice, the answer will vary by operator, product mix and market footprint, but the commercial direction is already visible.
For the iGaming sector, this marks a wider operational shift. Support is becoming a technology function with compliance, data quality and workflow design at its centre. Companies that manage the transition responsibly will protect service standards while controlling costs. Those that mishandle it risk reputational damage inside the business and across the markets where they hire.
