Google iGaming Update Disrupts Gambling Affiliates' Search Traffic

Google has launched a significant update, targeted at the iGaming sector. Known as the February 2026 Discover Update, it has led to a considerable decrease in search traffic for many gambling affiliates.

Impact on Search Traffic

Some affiliates have experienced a loss of up to 75% in organic traffic following the update. This has particularly affected sites that engage in practices such as link purchasing, use of PBN networks, and drop domains. Those employing so-called 'parasitic SEO' have seen reductions in traffic between 30% and 75%.

Sustainability and Local Variability

Larger editorial media and prominent gambling publications demonstrate relative stability amidst these changes. However, some aggressive operators have temporarily maintained traffic levels using subdomains and drops, though these strategies are likely short-lived. English-speaking markets see the most volatility, while localised markets have been less affected so far, though wider effects may develop.
