Intense Competition Maps Out in India's iGaming Market

iGaming analytics firm Blask has released a report shedding light on the dynamics of the Asian iGaming market. While the industry remains largely illegal across the continent, this has not deterred participation. In Bangladesh, stringent measures are in place, yet players continue to engage in online gambling as a means to earn money, evidenced by a 24% year-on-year growth in the Competitive Earning Baseline (CEB) metric.

Regional Growth and Challenges

The report highlights significant CEB growth in the Philippines, Maldives, and Nepal, with increases of 66%, 68%, and 64% respectively. Despite legal challenges, these countries are seeing burgeoning markets for iGaming. In India, competition is particularly fierce, with 398 brands operating and generating a CEB of $2.54 billion.

Indonesia and Thailand's Changing Landscapes

Indonesia's crackdown led to over 2.4 million gambling resources being blocked. Despite these efforts, new platforms quickly emerge. In Thailand, upcoming legislation plans to legalise online gambling by January 2025, with significant public interest already demonstrated during EURO 2024. The proposed changes aim to structure the evolving market, reducing illicit activities.

India's Unique Position

India remains a unique market with a culturally diverse approach to gambling. The country's high competition level is bolstered by prominent brands such as Stake and Parimatch. This competition drives innovation and accessibility across the iGaming landscape.

Offshore and Underground Dynamics

Despite bans on offshore casinos in the Philippines, the underground market persists robustly. Notably, top brands such as PlayTime and Bingo Plus continue to operate, catering to a significant demand from local players.

Insights into Singapore and South Korea

Sophisticated brand rankings were also noted for Singapore and South Korea, with brands like Singapore Pools and Bet365 leading due to precise APS metrics—offering more accurate first-time deposit estimates, reflecting the dynamic nature of these markets.
