Macau Gaming Revenue Reaches New Highs in 2025
This year’s IAG Breakfast Briefing reflects on significant developments in the Asia-Pacific gaming industry, with a particular focus on Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) for 2025. The year began with conservative estimates from investment banks like JP Morgan, anticipating slow progress for Macau.
Initial Challenges and Recovery
In the early months, Macau's Secretary for Economy and Finance, Tai Kin Ip, highlighted the shortfall in projected revenues. However, starting in May, casinos in Macau reported a substantial increase in GGR, peaking at MOP$21.19 billion and continuing upward through the summer with notable performances in direct VIP and ultra-premium mass segments.
Analyst Upgrades and Market Performance
By August, Morgan Stanley recognised Macau's growth prospects, revising operator valuations positively. JP Morgan also improved its forecasts multiple times throughout the year, driven by consistent revenue increases, including a record MOP$22.2 billion in August.
Strong Finish to the Year
The momentum carried into Q3, with VIP baccarat displaying remarkable growth of 29.1% year-on-year. October saw revenues rebound to MOP$24.1 billion. By December, analysts anticipated another strong month, suggesting a potential new record.
Macau’s exceptional performance throughout 2025 is a testament to its resilience and ability to bounce back, marking its place once again as a leader in the Asia-Pacific gaming realm.
