Genting Malaysia Secures New York Casino Licence by 2025

Genting Malaysia Secures New York Casino Licence by 2025
Subsidiaries of Genting Malaysia have been selected by New York’s Gaming Facility Location Board (GFLB) as one of three successful applicants for a full commercial casino licence. This represents a significant regulatory development in the Asia-Pacific gaming sector and further advances Genting Malaysia's international expansion strategy.
Multi-Stage Bid Process
The approval follows Genting Malaysia’s multi-stage bid in 2025, which included presenting a major integrated resort proposal. Additionally, a conditional takeover offer by parent company Genting Berhad aimed at funding the planned expansion highlighted their commitment to this project.
Operational and Financial Plans
Earlier this year, Genting Malaysia stated it could initiate full table game and slot machine operations at its Resorts World New York City location within six months of receiving the licence. The path to securing the licence was eased by MGM Resorts’ withdrawal from the competitive bidding process.
Strategic Moves and Market Expectations
In October 2025, Genting Berhad announced a US$1.59 billion voluntary takeover of Genting Malaysia to raise the necessary funding for the New York expansion. Although it concluded with Genting Berhad increasing its stake to 73.13%, it stopped short of full control. This strategic alignment aims to streamline the project's progression.
Future Implications
Analysts have identified the "massive profit potential" of a fully commercialised Resorts World New York City, with strong market expectations accompanying this development. This licensing victory marks Genting Malaysia's most significant international regulatory success and sets the stage for comprehensive casino operations in the US.
