Improving Casino Conversion Rates by Optimising Search Placement

Improving Casino Conversion Rates by Optimising Search Placement
The Importance of Search Functionality
In the online casino landscape, players typically visit with a specific game in mind. When a desired slot isn't prominently displayed, users rely heavily on the search function. This functionality is crucial not only for regular users but particularly for newcomers who are unfamiliar with the site.
Ensuring easy access to the search feature is key. Studies demonstrate that any extra steps—like accessing hidden menus—can deter potential registrations. This case study explores how a simple repositioning of the search function can positively impact registration conversions.
Analysis and Findings
Initially, the search feature was placed within a 'burger' menu icon, adding an additional tap for users to access it. Behaviour analytics revealed that, among non-registered and new users, the search feature, despite being hidden, was often the most clicked. Even among players with a few deposits, search maintained high engagement levels.
Concluding that search is vital for new player onboarding, the functionality was moved to the tab bar, replacing the 'live' icon. This change was tested through a comprehensive A/B test.
A/B Test Methodology
In the test, users were split into two groups: the control group with search in the burger menu and a test group with search in the tab bar. The main metric was Visit2Reg conversion over a three-month period. Other variables remained consistent across both groups to ensure unbiased results.
Impact on Conversions
Results were significant: by the third month, the test group showed a Visit2Reg of 36.8%, compared to 34.7% in the control group. Importantly, the percentage of users employing the search function before registering was consistently higher in the test group.
Interestingly, a new registration form was introduced in the third month, boosting overall conversion rates equally across both groups, further validating the results of the test.
Conclusions and Implications
The experiment underlines the importance of intuitive site navigation in boosting user registration. By positioning the search function more prominently, casinos can enhance user experience and increase conversions simply through usability improvements.
This study, however, also poses questions about the prominence of popular slots on the casino’s main page, as a notable portion of users still required the search to find games. This warrants further investigation.
Overall, this research offers a data-driven insight into how seemingly small user interface changes can significantly impact engagement and conversion, providing a clear opportunity for online casinos to optimise their registration processes.
